IMG Community Music Academy Courses: Evening and day group classes at the Island Music Guild. All classes are designed to both enhance the experience and enjoyment of the music hobbyist and also provide preparation for entrance to a college, university or conservatory music program for those interested in further music education. Classes are suitable for musicians and music enthusiasts and beginners of a variety of ages and skill levels, and are based on a standard core of courses in theory, music history and literature, audio technology and ensemble performance. Course Sessions usually consist of eight two-hour lessons. Materials and text-books are not provided, but instructions for obtaining these will be given at the first lesson of each course. A minimum enrollment of 4/5 students is required for a course to run. Full refunds will be provided in the case of course cancellation.

Tuition: $165 per semester, unless otherwise stated - 10% discount for IMG members.

Chamber Ensemble – continuation class MU-50B New students welcome to this coached chamber ensemble. Flute Ensemble – continuation class MU-50D
The group plays original music and arrangements for flute choir, focusing on tone color, intonation, and vibrato to create a blended "group sound", the hallmark of flute choir. Covers flute basics, posture, breathing, and technique. “Smart Strings” – continuation class MU-50G Young Students, 3rd-6th grade, will learn basic technique for their instruments, how to read music, and how to care for their instrument, from a certificated orchestra teacher with 10 years experience in the public schools. New students should have a few months playing experience. Music Therapy – music for health and balance - New MU-2A
Drawing on ancient uses of sound in healing, this group class will focus on ways in which the individual may use music to enhance health and well-being. Through the use of chanting, toning, and guided imagery and music experience, individuals may develop a personal practice for meditation, relaxation, increasing energy and stamina. Music and Sound are safe, non-threatening ways to connect with self and others. No pre-requisites. Instructor: Nancy H. Songwriting - New MU-1C
This course covers the interplay between lyrics and melody, and the ways in which this interplay creates coherent, expressive and listenable songs. It does not deal with production or performance techniques. All styles are welcome: Art song, theatrical song, blues, jazz, pop, country, folk, rock, or anything else. Introduction to Digital Audio MU-20A
Your PC is an audio workstation! Learn basic digital audio techniques and audio basics, in preparation for using your computer for recording, sound synthesis and electronic music production with MIDI and other applications. Students will learn to produce a synthesized or live recording and make an audio CD using their PC and use basic post-production concepts, as well as being introduced to the psychology of music.
