GROUP MUSIC CLASSES

Each semester we run evening classes for all ages and after-school classes that support school music programs and provide supplementary music education such as theory and sight-reading. Ensemble playing is a great way to benefit from your interest in music - the evening class semesters always finish with a recital and reception for all students. The Smart Strings and Brass programs are desiged for younger players, all other classes are suitable for all ages (teen through adult).

All-age Classes

Evening Flute Group -- If you played flute in high school or college and have been thinking about getting it out of the case and playing it again, then the Wednesday Evening Flute Group at Island Music Center is for you. We’re a self directed flute ensemble that meets on Wednesdays at 6:30pm to have fun playing together and improving our musical skills along the way. Hand Drum Classes -- Weekly hand drumming class. Led by Micah Harding. 7 - 8:30 pm Wednesdays. Call IMC for details or to sign up, or contact Micah at 206-818-5859, micah@anansirhythms.com

Blues School & Saturday Jam Session -- A hands on approach for those musicians, 8 to 80, who are reaching a level on their instrument that will eventually lead to playing in a basic band, and for those who have already played in bands, novice and veteran players alike learning together the basic chord structure and technical aspects of a typical blues composition. The approach will be to discuss the basics of a given blues tunes see a band play the tune, play with a guest artist each Saturday that will give the musicians direction and inside tips about playing and then begin a jam session for the last portion of the seminar with each musician getting some time on the bandstand if they choose. Gary St. Martin is a professional drummer and a veteran musician. He is a certified Yamaha Rock School Instructor and he will be directing this project. Each session will last 2 hours.
